About the only difference I can see between Gumbo and Jambalaya is the Gumbo has okra in it and Jambalaya does not. Either is made with meat(one kind or several) the trinity(celery, onion, green pepper) tomatoes(diced, whole etc) and broth or water. Spices reange from thyme, chili powder, cayenne, oreganol, salt, pepper. File is a sasafras powder seasoning that is in Gumbo but I have seen it in Jambalaya. They can be thin or thick brothed depending on taste and are ususally served over rice.
