immokalee…
I had an awesome time in Immokalee the last few days! The Student Farmworker Alliance was holding their 2006 Encuentro. SFA is a network of youth organizing in solidarity with farmworkers to eliminate sweatshop conditions and modern-day slavery in the fields. They are part of the Alliance for Fair Food, led by the Coalition of Immokalee Workers. The CIW is about to launch a campaign against McDonald’s after a victorious Boycott of Taco Bell to win better wages and working conditions for tomato-pickers.
I facilitated a Campaign Planning/Strategy training along with Emily from USSA, Brie from LWAC, and Brigette from Interfaith Action. Overall, I think the training went really, really well. I was very happy with it. We got a lot of useful information across while also presenting it in a fun interactive way.
JJ Tiziou took this incredible photo during the workshop. I was really excited by how it turned out. You should also check out the rest of his photography.
It was also really good to see friends that I have worked on other CIW events with, that were at last years Encuentro, or that I had met for the first time at this gathering. A really amazing group of folks doing some amazing work!

Aw…can’t get enough of scenes like this! Check out these bad-ass kids.
And there aren’t enough words to describe how much respect J.J. deserves from the world.
This site makes actual faces out of mere computer type. Weird.
