It was just one of those days. A “bleh” day, where you know it’s just gonna be unproductive. And any semblance of productivity was further thrown out the window when I accidentally deleted ALL OF MY INBOX. And while it was refreshingly liberating, my inbox usually contains a large part of the tasks I need to do. Fortunately, being the geek that I am, I had my laptop backed up on an external hard drive AND had a backup stored on the server as well. My last laptop back-up was about a week ago so I had to use the email on my server to fill in the holes. And GUESS WHAT?!? In my attempt to transfer those emails onto my computer, I DELETED those as well. Two major technical f*** ups in one day. Obviously, I’m not quite the geek that I give the impression to be. Needless to say, I was feeling quite bummed.
Anyway, I was given a little reality check of the (lack of) severity of the situation when my girlfriend received a phone call ultimately reminding me that I still had my health, a job, and lots of other things going quite well for me. As the evening progressed, I felt even more guilty about being bummed about something as trivial as email. Several friends and I went to see Why We Fight at the Red Vic Movie House in San Francisco after high commendations from another friend. It was an incredible film about the US’s military industrial complex (the war machine) despite the warnings of President Eisenhower in his farewell address and the ramifications of US imperialism and militarism across the world. The film didn’t have anything new that I hadn’t heard before and it definitely didn’t even attempt to be uplifting, but it did get me angry.
Today ended up being a good check on myself, and a Why We Fight was good reminder to focus on why I work, instead of getting caught up in day-to-day work. And madd props to Electric Embers for recovering my email despite my stupidity.
